Plantronics builds for a wireless future
Plantronics demonstrates wireless headset solutions at CeBIT 2004
Swindon, UK. -
HANOVER, GERMANY – CeBIT – March 18 2004 – Plantronics, the world’s leading provider of lightweight communications headsets, announces the launch of a comprehensive wireless audio technology initiative at CeBIT 2004. Plantronics will showcase a suite of wireless products, including DSP-enhanced BluetoothÔ and DECT headset systems, leveraging extensive voice expertise to deliver unmatched level of audio performance.
As wireless technology develops, users are able to access a number of applications providing them with a host of benefits, ranging from increased cost efficiencies to greater freedom to make and receive telephone calls whilst being away from their desks or outside their office.
To maximise the potential of wireless technology, Plantronics has applied its expertise in noise cancellation techniques, echo suppression, acoustic gain control and other technologies to ensure the best level of audio performance at the most critical point – the conversation.
“Building on more than 40 years of voice technology expertise, Plantronics has been able to develop a range of headsets that enable users to enjoy the benefits of crystal clear communications through an ever increasing variety of platforms.” said Philip Vanhoutte, managing director, Plantronics EMEA. He continued; “More and more people are demanding mobile solutions to their telephony requirements. Our aim is to continue to develop headsets that incorporate cutting edge technology and provide users with the freedom to hear and be heard when making and receiving telephone calls, regardless of the telephony platform they use.”
The M3500 DSP-enhanced Bluetooth headset builds on the platform of Plantronics’ award winning M3000 Bluetooth headset, integrating Audio IQ™ technology. The Audio IQ software enhances the functionality of the M3500 to deliver intelligent audio, resulting in exceptionally clear voice reception. This is achieved by automatically analysing the incoming voice signal and raising the softer portions of the signal without causing distortion, making it easier to clearly hear and understand the person on the other end of the call. For the person receiving a call from an M3500 Bluetooth headset, background noise is dramatically reduced, so the voice is transmitted clearly.
Another demonstration involves Plantronics Advanced Technology Prototype of a wireless VOIP telephone headset system incorporating DECT technology. Designed to cater for the business professional within small to medium sized enterprises, it provides hands-free wireless freedom for all VOIP softphone telephony applications. Plantronics, with its proficiency in communications technologies, has overcome many of the voice quality issues often associated with VOIP. For example, Plantronics’ use of Call Clarity™ technology enhances transmission and reception quality to provide crystal clear sound. In addition, noise-cancelling microphones in Plantronics headsets eliminate background noise to improve the quality of chat and voice messaging.
VoIP adoption is rapidly increasing as more consumers and businesses take advantage of its convenience, productivity increases and cost efficiencies. Few tools, however, enable users to realise the full potential of the technology and the breadth of applications available. The enhanced audio performance of Plantronics’ IP solutions make them an integral part of the transition to VOIP, providing the optimal audio quality and privacy required by businesses, as well as the convenience desired by home users.
Plantronics will be showcasing these products at CeBit 2004 – Hall 27, Stand number D-37
