Clarity Unveils First Wireless Telephone Integrating Patented Sound and DECT Technology

Santa Cruz - Clarity, a Division of Plantronics Inc. (NYSE:PLT), today announced the introduction of the C710, a fully-featured, cordless amplified telephone for people with varying degrees of hearing loss. The C710 is the first Clarity® product to integrate DECT and Clarity® Power™ technologies to create a unique product specifically designed for those who experience a hearing loss.

The integration of DECT and Clarity® Power™ technology will offer enhanced clarity, greater signal strength and an increased range of movement – up to 50m in a normal home environment – to telephone users. The C710 will be available through audiologists and retail outlets from spring 2005 and the manufacturer’s suggested retail price will be €199.00 (inc. VAT) / £139.00 (inc. VAT).

The C710 features Clarity® Power™ Technology, which amplifies incoming sound up to 32 decibels and shapes high frequency sounds to make conversations not only louder, but also clearer and easier to understand. To alert users to incoming calls, the C710 also features an adjustable ringer volume, a large lighted dial pad, and a bright visual ringer that is on both the base and the handset. In addition, the C710 has been designed for ease of use and includes the latest telephone functions and options including caller-ID, which has enough memory to store up to 10 telephone numbers, a one-touch emergency key, and a redial, flash, mute, and page function. The C710 also has a fully adjustable volume control so every person in the home can use the phone with comfort and ease.

“As more and more people are exposed to rising levels of noise pollution, we are seeing a dramatically increased need for amplified telephones. The age of the average user of amplified telephones has declined as people are exposed to progressively more dangerous levels of noise through their work and leisure activities. We are now seeing more young to middle-aged individuals impacted by a hearing loss,” said Carsten Trads, president of Clarity. “Clarity has been— will be— dedicated to its mission to improve hard of hearing people’s lives with technologically advanced, reliable and affordable hearing loss solutions—such as the new C710.”
