Plantronics Breaks Ground For Manufacturing Facility In China

Plant Helps Company Improve Product Time to Market in Asia, Enhances Local Manufacturing Quality Control

SANTA CRUZ, CA. - December 9, 2004 – Plantronics (NYSE:PLT), a worldwide leader in communications headsets, today broke ground for its new Suzhou manufacturing complex. The company’s worldwide manufacturing is currently in Mexico, with several suppliers in China. The Suzhou facility will allow Plantronics to develop and produce product locally, expedite product delivery to neighboring regions and improve quality control. The plant — expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2005 — adds to Plantronics’ presence in the Pacific Rim, where the company has offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Manila, Singapore, Taiwan and Melbourne.

“The creation of this facility demonstrates Plantronics’ commitment to our employees and the Suzhou citizens as well as to our customers,” says Terry Walters, senior vice president of operations for Plantronics. “As a part of our global strategy, this plant is both complementary and synergistic with our manufacturing in Mexico. It will provide components to our plant in Mexico and will also manufacture some products for export to local markets…the best of both worlds.”

The complex, located 50 miles west of Shanghai, is being built by Bechtel and includes a three-story office building and manufacturing facility totaling nearly 200,000 square feet. The design reflects Plantronics’ commitment to the local community and its residents, incorporating environmentally friendly building materials and elements such as battery chargers for electric scooters and a storm water management system.
