Fast Company Magazine Names Plantronics Top Innovator

Business Journal Honors Plantronics for Pioneering Headset Design and Ability to Bring Consumers’ Desires to Market

SANTA CRUZ, CA. - December 2, 2004 – Plantronics (NYSE:PLT), a global leader in communications headsets, is one of the nation’s most innovative businesses according to Fast Company magazine and global professional-services firm Monitor Group. Plantronics beat the competition for a place in the inaugural Innovation Scorecard based on factors such as the processes, tools and culture it creates to support innovation, patents granted, R&D spending and return on investment (ROI).

Out of more than one hundred companies surveyed for the scorecard, Plantronics is distinguished as one of the top five companies in the telecommunications and networking industry. According to the magazine, Plantronics’ ability to deliver on consumers’ wishes is integral to its innovations success and competitive advantage, “Plantronics asks consumers what they want….then works backward….” The report, published in the December 2004 issue, also highlights Plantronics’ approach to design where “designers, unfettered by mundane limitations of technology, create prototypes that connect with consumer desires.”

Ken Kannappan, CEO of Plantronics, says the company views innovation as an essential element in all of its business processes. “Creativity is truly meaningful when it improves the customer experience. Our recently released GameCom Halo 2 Edition headset is a great example of this,” said Kannappan. “Xbox Live™ gamers look for a superior piece of equipment to help them win, deepen their game experience, and remain comfortable during hours of use. We mapped these requirements against our extensive headset platforms to deliver the best solution and the headset became a gamer favorite overnight.”
